To enhance the welfare of the Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and OBC people Of Assam through qualitative research and capacity building programmes.
The major functions of this Institute are
(1) Research
(2) Evaluation
(3) Planning and
(4) Training.
Besides these the other functions includes publication of books, Annual Research Bulletin, Advertisement and Publicity for highlight the activities of AIRTSC, awareness camp on health, forestry etc, Grants-in-aid to authors for publication of books written on SC/ST, organisation of seminar/workshop, participation in exhibition of state , regional and national levels, award of doctoral and post doctoral fellowship as per selection of Govt. of India, maintenance of ethnographic museum, reference library, data bank on SC/ST, documentation centre, documentation of tribal life and culture through audio-visual means and so on.
